Oklahoma Senate Bill 1747...

Oklahoma Senate Bill 1747 has passed the Senate Judiciary Committee today.

The bill, if passed into law, will give Oklahoma juries the option of sentencing repeat child molesters to life without parole or the death penalty.

Senator Jay Paul Gumm is the author of the bill who believes that this will make Oklahoma children safer.

“Those who repeatedly prey on our children in this unspeakable manner should face the most severe penalties allowed under our justice system.”

Evidently, so do a majority of other Oklahoma lawmakers.

This is a tough piece of legislation that's being proposed here.

If this bill passes, it will be interesting to see how tough the jurors will be.

I don't know how much of the original language has been kept intact on this bill, but it also addresses other forms of child abuse including electronic abuse associated with internet predators.

The penalties are stiff.

This is good.
