A Regular Day...

We see all sorts of patients at work... even 'ornery' little gerbils.

This little guy is pretty sick, but it didn't seem to curb his biting a bit. Gerbils can bite really hard too.!

On the spur of the moment, I took this picture of Dr. Rachel Reeves today. She is one of the many doctors we have at the hospital. She likes to work with all the 'pocket' pets, reptiles, exotics, and other 'non-traditional' family pets that we have come through our doors.

You can always tell when Dr. Rachel is scheduled to come in, because the lobby starts to fill up with rowdy and noisy patients that are there to see her. The lobby is sometimes louder than the zoo when you incorporate a bunch of parrots and birds. In fact, after you add in a couple of snakes and Iguanas, you could say it becomes a jungle out there!

So as not to be outdone by my children's photographic competitiveness, I have decided to see if I can get some of my pictures accepted into the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association's 2007 calendar.

By the way... I haven't heard from either of my kids since they left yesterday morning.

I wonder how things are going?

What an interesting job you have, you must enjoy it very much. If your children inherited their photographic talent from you, I'm sure you will do well for the Calender. BTW. Have only had one text message from my son since he went on Sunday! Guess it means they're having a good time!

Your kids must be having fun!

I love little critters. I had 3 hamsters during my childhood. We had one local vet who treated the little guys. Not many vets around here worked with small animals at that time. Mostly just cats and dogs. Glad to see that's changed.

I've actually mentioned to my husband that I would love to get another hamster...for the kids, of course (not) but he's not having any of that. Oh well...I agree with Sue...your job sounds very interesting.

Hey guys...

I think my kids are having a lot of fun since there aren't any phone calls...

I suppose that's good really...

Sue, I'm not sure what all my kids have inherited from me. Hopefully they're mostly the *good* things.

D., ask your husband about a fish tank. Do you like fish? Maybe he would go for that?

Or have you asked about a guinea pig? They are loads of fun and are my favorite pocket pet.

Pocket pets ... hmmm ... over the years we've had:

Literally dozens of fancy mice, rats (including the hairless variety,) hamsters, gerbils, ferrets, cats, a beagle, chickens, a Tokay Gecko lizard, parakeets, cockatiels, cockatoos, love birds, African Gray Parrot, squirrels ... let's see ... I know I must be missing something ...

Oh! Yeah! And 1 husband ...

moof, I would love to see you put a beagle in your pocket!

We've had a beagle too, love them!

I love Rats! They are on the list of 'do not get' if you're on immunosuppressants ... along with any lizard :( snake (never would) or something else. With the rats, it has something to do with the tails, not sure what though, can't remember.

Other small rodents are ok, if they don't have tails.

We had 3 hamsters for about 2 years. The boys loved them. I was pouting because they weren't rats, therefore wouldn't have the personalities that rats have, but, they had more than I thought they would.

Love lizards of all kinds.
Favorite fish is pirhanna. They're illegal here ... but I rented a room from a friend who had them once. Loved them. Lot's of personality in those violent fish ... they are really quite pretty if you ignore the mouth area.

TJ I hope your kids have contacted you buy now! I am praying for them. I hope they are having the time of their lives!
