Postcards from Hawai'i

Shark's Cove is up the road from where we are staying. The area is known for its excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities.

So we went there this morning to do some snorkeling.

Sea urchins, eels, and numerous multi-colored fish were seen up close and personal. It was very, very nice.

Up the shore, about another mile, is a section of a solid rock shoreline. On this rock, a thick algae grows.

The sea turtles come to the shore to eat the algae.

This is probably the most amazing encounter of our entire trip.

These gentle giants are wonderful to watch as they use the ocean waves to bring them in, and then take them back out again.

We saw dozens of these turtles *grazing* along the rocks as well as swimming close by the shoreline.

It was absolutely amazing!

Tomorrow evening we will be catching our flight back to the North American continent, and then on to Oklahoma.

We will be taking home with us many wonderful memories...

And we'll be saying a melancholy farewell to the beautiful islands of Hawai'i.

later...

I felt like I was witnessing that sunset myself....just beautiful. I have to say, I have tried snorkeling a few times in my life, but I always had a hard time not being an obligate nose breather! Heehee....Looks like you all had fun, though. And the sea turtles must be quite a sight! They look so cute and gentle. Have a safe trip back to the mainland!

These are wonderful photo's, you look and sound like you are having such fun! Thank you so much for sharing it all with us.

BTW. It always looks pretty deserted - or are you selective in your shots?!

Have a safe journey home.

Hey Wolfbaby...

I have your items. I will need your address when I get stateside.

Hey Sicilian...

We've been following the weather in Oklahoma. It supposed to be 110 degrees fahrenheit today, Friday.

Lea...

Yes... the pictures don't do it justice!

Hey Pattie...

We were within inches of these turtles out in the wild! It was fantastic!

Hey Sue...

Everywhere we went, we were able to have the area pretty much to ourselves. We didn't frequent the most popular tourist spots.

That's how we found the turtles!

Hey Peggikaye...

Thanks! We're back safe and sound.

I have to admit...

The kids and I were ready to stay there!

I had been praying about the weather here in Oklahoma.

There are too many people who don't have air conditioning and suffer miserably.
